Press Release: Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Launches Campaign to Honor Local Environmental Stewards

Eco-focused Nonprofit Recognizes Area Businesses as Community Crusaders and Individuals as Unsung Heroes for their Selfless Work in Gwinnett County

Lawrenceville, Ga. – April 11, 2018 – Dedicated to educating an up-and-coming generation of environmental stewards, motivating the public to act on behalf of the local environment and advocating to keep Gwinnett County “clean and beautiful,” eco-focused nonprofit – Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful – has launched a new initiative to recognize outstanding individuals and businesses throughout the county. These individuals and businesses serve as shining examples for others to follow through the strides they are making on behalf of their community and the impact they are having on the local environment. Nominations are accepted and reviewed in order for one business to be declared Community Crusader and one individual to be name Unsung Hero each quarter.

“As a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, we know we could never do what we do all alone,” said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “It takes teamwork and vision from a vast network of people in order to achieve our mission of making Gwinnett County one of the cleanest, greenest and most livable communities in the nation. We already know what WE’RE doing to make that happen. Now, we want to know the stories of all of the local businesses and neighbors out there who are passionate about this incredible community we all share. This new Community Crusader-Unsung Hero initiative gives us a forum to shine the spotlight on what they’re doing to make Gwinnett County an even better place to live. We’re excited to see the response from the local community as the nominations start rolling in, but we’re even more excited to learn about all of the environmental stewards out there who call Gwinnett ‘home’.”

Community Crusaders are local businesses or organizations that demonstrate a standard of environmental stewardship that rises above the rest. Understanding the impact a clean and beautiful environment can have on the local economy, each company chosen for this special honor exhibits a level of eco-friendliness that extends beyond the walls of their local establishment and resonates out into the community. Community Crusaders take eco-consciousness to the next level by weaving it into the fabric of their corporate culture or organizational mission, motivating their teams to ACT.

Unsung Heroes are individuals who go “above and beyond” the call of duty, aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and welcome the opportunity to devote their time and energy to personally solve an issue within the community. They come in all shapes, sizes and ages, and do what they do out of love for their community.

Meet Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful’s first Community Crusader and Unsung Hero of 2018…

Team Ryan Automotive Service & Repair: Located at 2959 South Waterworks Road in Buford, this Community Crusader prides itself on being an environmentally-friendly auto shop. No strangers to recycling, Team Ryan recycles everything from the cardboard from parts box deliveries and coffee cups from the waiting area to antifreeze, car batteries, oil filters and tires. Team Ryan even reuses any collected engine oil and transmission fluid by burning it in a waste oil heater to heat the auto shop during the winter months.

Chad Livsey: Hailing from a family with a long history of community improvement and humanitarianism, this Unsung Hero has personally adopted eight sections of road in the Snellville area in recent months and has been cleaning up each section on a weekly basis. He told Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful that he is on a personal mission to keep his hometown of Snellville clean and beautiful, and if he has to do it all by himself… he will.

Businesses and individuals dubbed Community Crusader and Unsung Hero will be featured on the Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful website, social media pages and an upcoming issue of the nonprofit’s monthly newsletter. They will also be placed into consideration for GCB’s annual ECoS (Environmental Consciousness and Stewardship) Awards.
