Details

Georgia Adopt-a-Stream enables citizens to collect baseline water quality data to both observe the conditions of our local streams and become more aware of pollution and water quality issues. Unfortunately, many streams in Gwinnett do not currently meet established state water quality standards. That’s why we need your help!

You and your family, coworkers, group, etc. could serve as official “keepers” of a portion of a creek or stream by periodically monitoring its condition with supplies, training and certifications in chemical, bacterial and macroinvertebrate testing provided by Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and the Department of Water Resources. To find out more about the Adopt-a-Stream program, visit gwinnettcb.org/adopt-a-stream/.

In this virtual training workshop, we will focus on testing the Bacterial parameters of water quality, specifically testing for E.coli levels in the waterways. With this two-hour workshop, you can test for an official Georgia Adopt-a-Stream Certification in Bacterial Monitoring!

The second portion of the certification will be scheduled for a mutually agreeable time within three business days after the virtual class and will take place at a County Park with access to a stream. Upon completion of the field portion, the certification test will be administered.

***As part of COVID-19 precautions, virtual workshops taking place from January to June will consist of a field portion in addition to the virtual component. A field portion will be scheduled individually with each participant, and should take place within three business days of the online class. When possible, field portions will take place at a Gwinnett County Park most convenient to each participant.***

***All workshops are limited to 6 attendees. For the safety of both the participants and instructors, masks are required during field portions or in-person workshops.***
