Most dehumidifiers contain a harmful chemical, HCFC, as a refrigerant, and are considered hazardous waste unless this liquid is removed.
Check with your electric company to see if they offer rebates for recycled dehumidifiers.
Dehumidifiers can be disposed of at a hazardous waste collection event. Or check with your local refrigerant repair service to see if they are certified in removing HCFC. Once it is removed, you may dispose of it with your garbage.
