'Bring One for the Chipper' Tree Recycling

Celebrating Chipper's Success

chipper_photo.jpgThousand of citizens brought their old Christmas trees, stripped of all decorations, to one of our many drop off sites throughout Gwinnett after Christmas. 140 volunteers gathered on January 23rd to chip them into mulch to help keep Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful!  This community effort has been a tradition in Gwinnett for 25 years. Twelve high schools were represented in our group of volunteers, with 40 students coming from Meadowcreek High School.

For our 25th Anniversary of Bring One for the Chipper, our volunteers chipped an estimated 31,000 trees!  Most of the mulch will be used to help beautify Gwinnett County parks.  Precious landfill space will also be saved as the average Christmas tree weighs twenty pounds and fills up almost as much landfill space as a washing machine.

Since 1984 it is estimated that we have diverted over 1,000,000 Christmas trees from landfills. Annually, Gwinnettians recycle one out of every three Christmas trees recycled in Georgia.  For the past five years we have recovered the most trees in the state.

While our Chipper event may have concluded, you can still recycle many other items year-round.  For a complete list of items you can recycle in Gwinnett, click here.
