What can this site do for you as an educator?
As educators, we can focus on environmental “literacy” in our classrooms which is the best tool for providing students with an understanding of the ramifications of their actions and behavior patterns in order to:
- Increase sensitivity and concern surrounding environmental issues
- Learn about and care for the total environment
- Understand how humans interact with and are dependent on natural ecosystems
- Develop global thinking, cooperative learning, problem solving, and critical-thinking skills to resolve environmental issues
On this site, you will find:
- Teacher developed lesson plans and learning opportunities
- Assessment tool for schools to plan and assess their environmental educational programs and practices
- AKS correlations by content area and grade level
- Best practices from other schools
- Literature connections
- Helpful links and resources
- Service Learning Opportunities
- 2013-2014 Green & Healthy School Steering Committee
Working in partnership with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, Gwinnett County Public Schools, and the environmental teacher(s) representative from each Gwinnett County School, this committee:
- Serves as a liaison between Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Public Schools to assist with developing educational lessons and related resources that supplement classroom teaching and learning
- Assists with updating/editing Green & Healthy Achievement Profile (G-HAP). The G-HAP is an action plan for schools, administrators, and teachers to guide and assess school-based environmental education, programs, and practices
- Helps organize quality teacher trainings and/or environmentally-themed events as they relate to Gwinnett County’s Academic Knowledge & Skills objectives
- Promotes environmental stewardship among the school community and encourages all schools to be active participants in the Green & Healthy Schools Program
- Works hand-in-hand with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful to help make Gwinnett a “clean and green” place to live and learn
