Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Preps for Socially Distanced America Recycles Day

Eco-Focused Nonprofit Teams Up with Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management to Collect Electronics, Latex Paint and Paper for Secure Shredding at Coolray Field November 14

Lawrenceville, Ga. – October 27, 2020 – Like many things in 2020, America Recycles Day will look a little different in Gwinnett County than in years past. Catapulting off the socially distanced model it created for its Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event held in July, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and its event partners at Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management pledge to ensure a safe event for staff members, vendors and attendees alike. America Recycles Day 2020 will be held November 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coolray Field – home of the Gwinnett Stripers – located at 2500 Buford Drive in Lawrenceville.  Items collected at this year’s event include electronics, latex paint and paper for secure shredding.

“On the heels of the cancellation of our Governor’s Environmental Address and 40th Anniversary Celebration, we are thrilled to be able to host this popular event for our Gwinnett County neighbors,” said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “Like our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day earlier this year, we ask that attendees remain in their cars. Staff members from GC&B and Gwinnett County – all of whom will be wearing masks – can collect the items from their back seat or trunk. No refreshments or portable potties will be available, and we ask that everyone keep their windows rolled up while in the unloading zone. Please place your items in disposable boxes, as we will be unable to return containers. I have faith that we will return to our regular fun America Recycles Day program next year, but this year’s event still presents a terrific opportunity for Gwinnett County residents to rid their basements, attics and garages of latex paint cans and old electronics, and their offices of outdated files. We’ve extended the time for this event, so we hope to see a big turnout. We will do our level best to keep the line moving as swiftly and smoothly as possible.”

Items collected during America Recycles Day 2020 include:

  • Electronics – Recycling is free except for TVs, monitors and printers. Attendees are asked to bring cash – $15 per monitor or TV and $5 per printer
  • Paint – Only latex paint will be accepted at this event and collection is limited to 10 gallons per vehicle
  • Paper shredding – Limited to five copier paper boxes

A national initiative of Keep America Beautiful, America Recycles Day was first established by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997. Today, it is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products.
