Great American Cleanup – Gwinnett Challenge 2018

Select a project from one of three categories for Great American Cleanup – Gwinnett Challenge. Projects can be completed by individuals or by a group, such as a school green team, civic organization, local company, neighborhood, etc. We have included some suggested projects under each category, but we also LOVE innovation – so feel free to dream up a community improvement project of your own imagining! One winner will be selected from each category to win a $500 CASH PRIZE! Click here for more information on the Rules and Guidelines.

Get Educated!

A very important component to being a good environmental steward is to get educated about the environment and the impacts – both positive and negative – we can have on it. By becoming educated, you can help educate others on a variety of subjects of important environmental concern. Projects in this category will be judged on the number of people educated, the quality of information, and level of creativity. Below are some topic suggestions, but we encourage you to propose your own, as well.

  • Recycling
  • Litter
  • Illegal Dumping
  • Water Conservation
  • Storm Drains and Watershed Awareness

Get Engaged!

Needless to say, one of the best ways to have a direct and positive impact on the environment is to get engaged! This means you’ll need to get your hands dirty in an effort to clean-up and green-up our community! Projects in this category will be judged on the number of volunteers engaged, the level of community impact, and your explanation of why this project was important. Below are some project suggestions, but we encourage you to propose your own, as well.

  • Take Part in a Road Cleanup*
  • Take Part in a Stream Cleanup*
  • Stencil Storm Drains*
  • Launch a Community Beautification Project
  • Remove Graffiti
  • Start a Community Garden

*For more information on getting started, contact Sumner Gann at sgann@gwinnettcb.org.

Get Inspired!

Even with this big beautiful world all around us, some people need to be reminded that it’s not only there, but it’s also our responsibility to take care of it. Get inspired to inspire others to be better environmental stewards at home, work, or school! Projects in this category will be judged on level of creativity, what was learned, and what benefits resulted from the project. Below are some project suggestions, but we encourage you to propose your own, as well.

  • Create a Video about Sustainability
  • Reuse a Resource in a Creative Way
  • Engineer an Innovative Project at Home, Work, or School that Promotes Sustainability

When you finish your project, don’t forget to fill-out the Post-Project Results Form here.
